Springtime Garden Wedding in Austin

P h o t o s b y H e a t h e r H a w k i n s

Did everyone enjoy their weekend? Though spring is just around the corner, we’ve still got plenty of snow here in New England. But that doesn’t mean I’m not dreaming of spring flowers and sunshine. With that said, today we’re sharing a lovely springtime garden wedding in Austin, Texas, shot by the talented Heather Hawkins.

James and Rachel were married in the beautiful gardens of Le San Michele. A color palette of pastel pinks, yellows, and neutrals were used for the gorgeous florals and design by The Nouveau Romantics.

From the bride (on the venue)…Le San Michele has a really unique Europe-meets-Texas vibe – the property is laid out in the style of European gardens but the foliage and plant life are all distinctly Texan (cacti, succulents, bluebonnets, etc.). We knew that we wanted to be outdoors and this space combined our loves for Europe (I studied abroad and interned in London and James studied in Florence) and Texas (where we live).

Bridal Portraits From Belle Lumière Workshop

P h o t o s b y H e i d i L a u

Very happy to share some lovely bridal portraits with you today, styled beautifully by the one and only Ginny Au. These portraits were taken by Heidi Lau, Canadian photographer, at the Belle Lumière all film workshop late last summer. Have a look, the florals, styling, and photography are all so gorgeous and will serve to be a perfect mid-week inspiration.

From the photographer…Last summer I attended a film only workshop with the fine art magazine Belle Lumiere. It was daunting and liberating to not bring my digital camera with me. I had started out in film when I was first exposed to photography, I then switched over to digital when film started to phase out and digital cameras were all the rage. I still love digital photography, it definitely has it’s strengths but my true love for photography will always be film. I love the tangible process of actually making photographs and the undeniable beauty of film colours, tones and grain. The Belle Lumiere workshop allowed me to experiment with medium format and after my first shoot I was hooked.

This styled shoot was on the second day of the workshop, everything was expertly styled by the amazing Ginny Au. Her ability to style simple and authentic shoots is truly a gift. It was a dream to photograph and all the other vendors really put in all their time and talent to make this all happen. This workshop will always be dear to my hear because it reminded me of why I loved photography in the first place, being able to slow down, take it all in and remember the moments.

The Stolen Child - Styling Pilgrimage From Pearl & Godiva

P h o t o s b y A s h l e y L u d a e s c h e r

Hello dear friends. Let me first preface this feature with the fact that I’m a huge fan of Pearl & Godiva (also known for their gorgeous, all-film wedding blog, Wedding Sparrow) and the talented photographer Erich McVey. They teamed up with several amazing vendors for Pearl & Godiva’s Beauteous Workshop in Ireland last October. Let’s take a closer look at these gorgeous photographs taken during the workshop by Ashley Ludaescher.

Inspiration for this shoot comes from the poem The Stolen Child by Irish poet, William Butler Yeats…

“Come away o human child!

To the waters and the wild

With a faery, hand in hand.

For the world more full of weeping than you can understand.”

Ballet Inspired Valentine’s Shoot

P h o t o s b y M i c h e l l e B o y d

Happy (almost) Valentine’s Day, lovelies! So I know that Valentine’s Day is kind of commercial and maybe even a bit cliche, but hey - I still kind of love it. Whether you’re a fan of Valentine’s Day or not, it honestly doesn’t matter. This ballet inspired Valentine’s shoot is seriously gorgeous. From the florals, the colors, to the graceful ballerina, I am so excited to share these photos by the talented Michelle Boyd. There’s just something about ballerinas that feels so inspiring for a wedding junkie too…

From Katy of Without Wax, Katy…When I hear Valentine’s Day, I think feminine. Soft, graceful and elegant. And to me, the essence of feminine is a ballerina. How they seemingly float on air as light as one could be. Our model, Cassia Wilson, is a trained ballerina and currently an apprentice with the Austin Ballet. She has an amazing ability to glide effortlessly, making each movement meaningful. Michelle Boyd’s talent is incredible. She was able to freeze frame the fluidity of each delicate motion without fail. Part of the day was spent shooting in classic black and white film. Doesn’t it just make your heart skip a beat? Makenzi Laine created a modern take on a classic bun, and polished Cassia’s natural beauty with soft makeup and the most stunning deep plum lip color. The color palette, while not your typical Valentine’s combination, is the perfect balance of understated sophistication and wildly romantic. Rich tones of berry blues and plums, paired with fuchsia filled the table, as the centerpiece danced and took center stage.
